Hector Olivares

HectorFoto2I am a PhD student at the Institut für Theoretische Physik of the Goethe-Universität, in Frankfurt. Since my arrival in May 2015, I joined the BlackHoleCam project, which aims to measure the shadow of the supermassive black hole that is considered to be in the centre of the Milky Way.

I belong to the team that creates computer simulations to study the behaviour of light and matter in the vicinity of such astrophysical object.

My research interests are relativistic hydrodynamics and magnetohydrodynamics, general relativity and numerical simulations in these fields.

I obtained my Bachelor degree at the University of Veracruz, in Xalapa, Mexico, and my Master degree at the Centre for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute (CINVESTAV), in Mexico City. For my Master thesis project, I worked under the guidance of Dr. Tonatiuh Matos and in close collaboration with the group of Dr. Miguel Alcubierre, from UNAM. My research work consisted on studying a cosmological model proposed by Dr. Matos through numerical simulations in full general relativity.
